Mohitinhere @ IOAC 2004 ( Mumbai ) - I

• The email invite for IOAC 2004 to be held in Mumbai in Hilton Towers on Oct 1 ( Friday )came in on Sept 28th ( Tuesday).
• I made up my mind to go and attend the conference on late night on 29th Sept ( Wednesday )
• Today ,I left for Mumbai from Delhi boarding a Jet Airways Flight at 8:30 in the night( finally I decided upon meeting my Travel Agent and getting a booking from him - since I made my plan on Wednesday evening 29th Sept only , it was very very hectic day for me. I need to wrap up and close all the tasks on my hand. Just to give a list of things I completed on 30th Morning (Thursday 1st Half )
• Booked Flight tickets after conducting a practical-review-of-all-the-domestic-airlines-in-india and their websites and online booking engines.Posted the same on my Blog !!!!! ( If you think I am a BLOG freak - well YES I AM and I am very proud of it. !!!! )
• Finally I booked return tickets - I plan to return back on Oct 1(Fri) or Oct 2(Sat) night
• Booked a Hotel Room in Hilton Towers itself. I thought it would be very convenient for me , since I could land in Mumbai at 10:30P.M in the night - reach the hotel - have a rest and sleep and get ready to attend the conference in the morning in the same hotel only. Mumbai had a bad reputation for traffic and I didnt wanted to take any chances.I didnt wanted to miss the starting keynote from Mr Ajit Balakrishnan (Chairman and CEO Rediff.com www.rediff.com ) . Hence I decided against flying in the morning and instead decided to take overnite room in the venue itself ( expensive but I hoped the conference would be worth the effort)
• Answered emails and sent pending tasks requests to my clients and colleagues.
• Got a Hair cut ( Since I had been too busy for last 2 weeks ,hence my hair came into the category of pony tails literally )
• Packed my luggage
• Travelled to Connaught place from my home to collect my tickets from the Travel Agent
• Worked till 6 am the previous night and slept for 2 hours only . Got up at 8 am . ( you would know this to be a miracle if you know me well)

Just for the record my main reasons for going and attending IOAC 2004 :

• Fabulous sessions planned throughout the day 9:30am - 6:30 pm http://www.ioaindia.com/ioac_session.html
• The best speakers and WHO-s-WHO of the Internet Industry in India were presenting , moderating and attending the event. Some people who have indirectly inspired me to be a part of this industry and whom I have always come to admired are going to be present. To name a FEW - Mr Ajit Bala-Rediff.com , Mr Neeraj Roy- http://www.Hungama.com www.indiafm.com , Mr Andre Nair-GroupM .
• I wanted to "network" with some potential clients and some prospects whom I believe would be definately attending.
• Mumbai !!!! ( An Oppurtunity to be in this great /exciting city over a weekend - was tempting )
• Meeting new freinds I have made in Mumbai through my blogging adventures ( Kaushal from Hungama.com being one of them )
• Meeting some other clients/freinds

See Online -Deal Offline ??? A case of Domestic Indian Airfares

I think because of my undying passion for the internet , every decission in my life has to involve Internet research and study.

Since I needed to get my flight tickets and hotel room booked , I could have easily called my travel agent and got them booked.

Instead what does a Mad internet junkie like me does ??

He researches and studies all the Domestic Airlines Carriers websites , their online ticket booking process , their APEX ( advance purchase ) tickets auctioning and the other deals available .

Hence ,in essence I practically reviewed 4 websites of Airlines companies , 2 Air tickets Auction platforms and got to know about the latest price and deals war in the Domestic Indian Airlines Market.

( In the past ,I have given my travel agent a run for his money -based on my internet research .I have been able to dig out deals which were HALF THE PRICE of the "BEST DEALS" offered by Travel Agents and that too online and beleive it or not ..this is INDIA..where Internet's impact on Travel industry is supposed to be not even 1% of whats it like in a country like USA. I guess this goes enough to say..there is HUGE HUGE SCOPE for INTERNET TO IMPACT THE DOMESTIC INDIAN TRAVEL INDUSTRY)

Coming to my short reviews of the websites of Airlines carriers in India:

+ Indian Airlines ( ****) - Surprisingly the best website in terms of User Interface and ease came from the Indian PSU.
I got myself registered and check out the flight schdules and fare with much ease.
A good place to search our the Flight schedule , fairs ( look out for the pricing display with APEX pricing..very cool ), availability etc.

+Indian Airlines APEX tickets Auctions ( **) - Ease of use without much information on display , is NO USE.

Since IA offers only 7 and 21 days APEX and that too on some few sectors , hence it was no use for me.I was hoping they would have some end moment tickets auction promotion going on this site. But it wasnt the case.

IA by the way is the most expensive carrier !!! Delhi - Mumbai - 6445 ( non apex )

+ Jet Airways ( *** ) - A Good robust site which has all the details regarding Jet airways flight , fares , availability. However they could have done with better sections on their NITE SAVERS and Check FARES sections. The deal just doesnt stick out ,in the mind !!!

+ Air Sahara (** ) : Bad site , good pricing, practical deals !!!

The least impressive site amongst the BIG three . Better creatives a MUST for SAHARA !!!

There is an uneasy discomfort which creeps in when you browse this website .
A totally opposite case from Indian Airlines website.

+ Air Sahara Tickets Auctions : ( *****)

If someone is looking for the most practical and REAL steal of a price ,he just needs to land here !!!

Much Better AUCTION SITE then Indian Airlines

+ Air Deccan (** ) : BAD SITE ,IMPRACTICAL DEALS and not to mention a non existant user interface . The pricing for flights is laid as a stock market column in a financial newspaper .

BADLY needs DATA Organization !!
However , since its a new entrant and giving our air tickets at the price of peanuts bowls . I think its fair to give them time to evolve.

P.S : I am finally buying my tickets from the travel agent/Airport since none of the sites above can give "a good bargain deal" to the flyer who is booking tickets on the same day of the flight.Indian Airlines does offer tickets bookings 2 hour before fight take off , but the pricing is certainly not what one can get at the Airport counter.

Phew , another case in the Internet Space of SO-NEAR-YET-SO-FAR !!

Hectic Day !! Hectic Life !! Wonderful work !!

Had a very hectic day today . Infact it went totally unplanned and topsy turvy.
An unplanned travel trip got planned today !!
A planned work got postponed today !!

Hmmm..

I spent the day today finalizing the details of my TRIP TO MUMBAI ( Bombay ) tommorow.

I am going there for a conference for 1 day on Oct 1st ( more details on this in my post later ) and I plan to cover the Full conference via my blog for people who couldnt participate or are interested in what went on in the conference.

Since I am going to Mumbai , I plan to catch up with some freinds there too .Hence I also organized some outings with freinds and clients.

The tentative Itenary :

-I plan to reach Mumbai on 30th Sept Night and stay over in the Hotel or a nearby Hotel where the conference is taking place.This way I can get some rest ( dont wanna just fly into a 7 hour session and fly off) and also attend the conference while I am fully awake . ( My screwd up sleeping schedules are now even (un)popularly recognized by some of my clients !!! )

-I also plan to meet up some freinds over on 30 Sept Night and on 1st Oct evening.

-If I feel so , I might even stay over for 1st Oct Night and 2nd Oct day ( its a national holiday - birth anninversay of Mahatma Gandhi -in India).

Hence I am not taking along a return air ticket with me.

I called up my cousin Rupz and she is already jealous of me spending my weekend - Thu Night , Fri , Sat-Sun ( probably ) there.

My brother said to me , he also needs a vacation and wants to accompany me.

My cousin Subir , probably might join me there !!

Phew , this trip just got planned today in the afternoon and it already seems to be extending with my family , freinds wanting to join me.

No wonder I wont get time to work ever , if they had their way.

This small chat with him made me ponder on the effect of my Blog on my clients and business associates.

+ If I post too many of my pics partying will they think , I dont work or I take work casually ?

+ Will my posting personal pics make my clients see my human side and a peek in my life ?Will this be positive or negative for my impression on them ?

+ Should I post some professional pics or working pics of mine too ? Maybe uploading a video of fire fighting sessions or working all night to meet proposals deadline will be good ?

Ahh....Then I thought and decided upon the following :
I think my blog of late has been getting too personal ( more pics of me partying , movie reviews , personal views and philosophy ).
The reason I love to upload personal posts --- hmm coz ,its the reason we ALL WORK - We ALL WANT TO BE HAPPY WITH PEOPLE WE LOVE. And nothing gives me more happiness , then sharing my happy moments on my blog for all to see.

But at the same time , I didnt go about writin this BLOG just to post my personal life tit bits.

One of the main objectives of MIND BYTES was to post the ideas , thoughts , memories , experiences which POP UP in my mind practically at the rate of 100s everyday .

Small views on news pieces , or web articles.

Its the reason why I started the initial entries on my blog with fashion and internet , Indian Railways and other technology related thoughts.

Hmmm..

I think time has now come to tilt the equation and balance it out.

Hence guys..expect more techie related post to follow and some work related pics too !!!

THE WHOLE GANG !!! From L TO R . Seema , Rohit , Sumit , Rupz , myself having drinks and dinner at AGNI !! We all really loved the food and the personalized service at AGNI ( Fire ) . Also the place seems to have warm feel about it . This pic is all of us having food at the dining area .

Bought NOKIA 7610 finally !!! Wanted to buy a new phone much earlier , but just didnt get the time to research and stuff ! Got rid off my Sony Ericsson T610 - I THINK ITS CONNECTIVITY SUCKS big time !! Not recommended . The only positive it had was it was small and was comfy to carry around . 7610 is bulkier but has 1.0 megapixel camera and video recording. Hence I am not complaining

So much Happening in my LIFE !!!

Its been BUSY BUSY BUSY ...very BUSY over the last 14 days or so.
Hence couldnt get much time to post new entries.

However it has got nothing to do with NOT FINDING time for blogging.
Its just that whenever I want to post new entries , I need to be at peace and ease to do it .

It doesnt make sense to me to post entries half heartedly.
Either I do it well or dont do it at all.

So it a nutshell this is what all has happened in my life over the last 10 days or so( very detailed post and images on all these coming next, though they might not be in date wise/sequence wise chronological order ) :

- Spent the last weekend ( 18th /19th ) like this >>

+ Sat daytime - went to Khan Market with my brother to buy some more light fittings for my room and lobby
+ Sat nite - went at 11 pm to Fashion TV Bar and Lounge with freinds for drinks and dinner ..FTV closed at 2:30 am and then went to Buddhar Bar and Lounge in Metropolitan Mall in Gurgaon ( enroute got stuck for 1 hour in the traffic Jam on MG Road due to the FABRIC - the latest new club in Delhi - Launch . Came home at 6 am from Buddhar bar . BB had some great music but was overcrowded and full of drunked up zoombies dancing a if no tommorow . FBAR the opposite - classy as always!!
+ Sun day - relaxed and watched some TV
+ Sun nite - went for a hindi movie - pathetic one ..RAKHT ..dont watch it..Dont even wanna waste time writing a post reviewing it.

+Monday 20th Sept - choc a bloc , filled with so much work at office and meeting with clients. Slept at 4 am in the night , afterworking non stop from 1 pm in the afternoon
+Tuesday 21st Sept - worked again till 4 am or something...lotsa stuff in between ..work related tensions!!
+ Wednesday 22nd Sept - same old routine !!! grrrr..on a good news got the GOOD NEWS that my cousins and my best friends first ( Rupal and Sumit ) are coming to Delhi from Kanpur next day morning. Worked all nite and didnt sleep.

+Thursday Morning 23rd Sept - Since I was working all nite , I just got in my jeans and tees and went to pick Rupz and Sumit from stations at 5:30am in the morning...Gawwd why do these train come to early in the morning.

+Thursday (Day) - Went to office at 8 am had a meeting with a client from Chennai at 9 am and it went on till 12 pm. Bought a NOKIA 7610 ( my review on it coming soon in next posts) on my way back home. I have taken a leave from work now for Thursday second half and Friday -whole day.

- Went shopping with Rupz , Sumit and Seema ( Sumits Wife ) to GK M Block market.Bought brown leather shoes for myself.
- Went to AGNI at The Park in the night for some drinks and dinner ( my brother Rohit aka Bubby/ My nickname is Monty !!! ) joined us there.Many pics from my new NOKIA 7610 coming on this blog.
-Came home at 2 am , all were talking and slept at 4 am

+ Friday - We all had planned to goto Vrindavan ( relihious place where Lord Krishna spent his childhood days ...a very peaceful place which has the great ISKCON temple - an experience by itself ) for darshan and obviously good fun long drive . Vrindavan is 3.5 hours by Car from Delhi. Came back to Delhi at 2 am in the night from Vrindavan. More post on this FULL DAY trip later.

+ Saturday - Rupz loves to see the Fashion exhibition and went with her to one such exhibition " BRIDAL ASIA 2004 " at Taj Palace hotel in New Delhi. Later went for shopping to GK / South Ex and Defence colony.

-In the nite went to FTV BAR and Lounge for the second time running with all the GANG.Had tonnes and tonnes of FUN there . AWESOME MUSIC !!!

+Sunday - Went for some more shopping in Model Town and went to station in the evening to drop of the GANG. Relaxed in the night by watching a nice soft movie " 50 FIRST DATES " . Nice movie. Started working at 12 am and worked till 3:30 am .Its 3:55 currently when I am punching this post online !!!

Tommrow have to get up at 9 am and goto office for some work..

A GRUELLING WEEK filled with TONNES of work is AHEAD.!!!!

Ahh.....I already miss my weekend !!! Want another one !!

Mean Girls (*** ) :
A good college flick which has a "real " feel to it. Not an American pie type quality ( which was from the guys and sex points of view ) but its a movie which shows college world from Girls point of view. Lindsay Lohan and the other girl HOT girl TINAFEY do some cool one up womenship in the movie. I loved the part of the movie where they show rumours spreading in the college. Its so true !!! We have all been through it in our college , school and strangely office life too !!

The Bourne Supremacy ( **** ) -
A very good edge of the seat thriller. For people who like The Bourne Identity its a must see. Matt Damon does his controlled acting bit. The main strength of the movie is its very finely crafted script. There no time passers here. The movie from beginning to end goes in a fast pace . The ending is what you call " Paisa Vasool ( Moneys worth recovered!! ) " . The fabulous techno track and the car chase sequence. Simple fanstastic. Some people didnt like the jerky camera effect , I think its unique and makes the scene more complex and interesting then its actually is...which is entertaining. One grudge though...The volume of the techno track in the end needed to be higher and more audidble in the foreground rather then keeping it in the background. Remember the car chase sequence in MI 2 ??? I am sure John woo kept the techno tracks in the foreground realising the importance of mysticism they lend to the whole sequence !!! The vroooom sounds of the cars is for the old movies...!!! Archive them !!!

The Hectic Weekend !!

The weekend gone started with a movie ( The Bourne Supremacy ) and ended with a movie ( Mean Girls ). In between there was some hectic work ( work as in office work and house work ) was done by me plus a whole Saturday Night was spent out partying at Craves !!! This is how it went :

Friday Night :

- Heard the news of me becomeing an Uncle ( Chacha in Hindi ) . My cousin Subir became a father to a girl. Went to the Hospital to see the child and give my congratulations.
- Went for a movie at 11 in the night . "The Bourne Supremacy " more on this late.
- Came back at 1:30 am , worked online for some 5 hours. Slept at 7 in the morning.

Saturday ( Day ) :

- We are getting a Plaster of Paris and Paint job done in our house ( its a big mess right now ). Actually I am getting a study room made for myself , where I can work and blog at peace in the Nights. Somehow I have this BIG need to getting my work area in my home ( I work a lot on nights in my home ) organized and settled.Coming to the point. Went shopping for Lights and new fittings in Khan Market. They have the best variety in lights there.Went in the afternoon at 2 and came back home at 9 in the night.

Saturday ( Night ) :

-Went out at 11 Pm with freinds to party on the Saturday nite . We choose to go back again to " Craves in Sahara Mall, Gurgaon " . Its the place where I saw the DJ with the condom slogan shirt . ( Refer my earlier post ).Was looking forward to what T Shirt he wears this time!!!.The top most floor in Sahara Mall , has basically 3 clubs one after another ( Craves, Odyssey , Last Chance ). We initially decided to goto Last Chance but it was jamm packed with people and didnt seem a good option. Odyssey was a good try but we went for Craves ( Basically you can be guaranteed of good music and babes at that place !!! ).Coming back to the T Shirt worn by the DJ .Today he strangely wore a T Shirt which had 2 big circles and it was somewhat looking funny in the neon light. It was actually looking as if the DJ was a girl wearing some see through bikini or something.Come to think of it. Came home by 5 am in the morning and worked online till 7 am .Slept at 7am .

Sunday (Day ) :

- Woke up at 2 in the afternoon. Read Newspapers , watched some TV , had lunch and relaxed around.

Sunday ( Night ) :
- Saw a movie " The Mean Girls " recommended in a post by someone who writes an interesting blog .More on the movie in my next post. Finished the movie at 1 am . Went online to do some work and worked till 4 am . Slept at 4 am and reached office at 12 Pm.!! ( Ooops this is my daily routine , hence dont get shocked )

A life is Born !!!!

My cousin brother Subir and his wife Deepti became parents today to a girl ( They havent yet decided her name and from what it seems its goona take a while since there are many advisors !!) They got married last year and its funny how their life will change forever after today !!!

Nature has its own "special zones " to change paths for mortals like us .

All my love to the new born baby !!! :-)

My Sweet Lord !!!

Janamashtmi ( Lord Krishna's Birthday ) just went and I didnt go to the temple.
I used to go to the temple all these years in the night (around 10 PM) and we had a Pooja at our home at 12 midnite .

I somehow am feeling guily and feeling responsible that I am not headed on the right path.

If you are thinking what I was doing and why didnt I go ??
Well I was online doing business as usual /working.

However in order to redeem myself of the guilt ( which I was feeling while I was working )

Gravity from Korea are the games publishers and they are doing some breakthrough work in testing the game BETA worldwide and then finally launch a PAY PER PLAY model !!! Howz that for new business model ??? However the games popularity will ultimately define the success. A freind of mine Prabhvir Samhey ( met him in a forum meeting and then co worked with him on pitching a custom application project) is managing promotions for the game in Pune. He gave me some good insights in the Indian average gamer physche and how he read the emerging gaming market in India. Will talk on this more in next posts on the blog...

As an RPG , RAGNAROK comprises of many in game characters and works. Posting some shots from the games characters. !!!

The biggest stregnth of RAGNAROK is its brilliant animation and character generation. I am looking forward to download the character art and the fansite kit and start a fan site. But before that I need to take sometime out on weekends and play the game and go into deep detail.

Trying my hand at one of my lost hobbies of PC Gaming. I always loved strategy games especially the kinds of Homeworld ( 3D world in that was superb ). This game RAGNAROK is being promoted in India by Level Up games. I got a copy of the game client free on DVD with a monthly magazine DIGIT. The game comes under the genre of MMORPG ( Massively Mutiplayer Online Role Playing Game...PHEW!! )

FOAM Party !!!

WEEKEND START ...SATURDAY >>>
This weekend started with me waking up on Saturday Morning and doing some urgent work on my hand. ( Sending business mails , reading mails , taking actions , and some miscllaneous work ).
Spent sometime in the evening on the NOKIA website looking at some new phones. I am planning to sell my Sony ericsson T610 since the signal coverage and strength hasnt been good and the phone screen is having a weird white circle in the center.

Now comes the exciting part ...In the night went out wid frenz to 32nd Milestone in Gurgaon. I heard from my freinds in the afternoon thats it going to be a foam party , hence they adviced me to dress in old clothes. However ignoring their advice ,I went in a mix of old jeans , new shirt and new leather shoes.The sat nite FOAM bash was basically an event promoted UB Group's new energy drink CULT . The place looked jamm packed and there were people packed on the dance floor . 4 walls of thick transparent plastic sheets made up for walls and people were packed inside the walls on the floor with the DJ infront.
The foam was being poured from the foam machine directly on the roof above the dancers.

Hmmm...looked nice...

We went for some drinks ( had 1 beer ,2 bacardi with cola) and after a while ,tried some hand at getting dirty and dancing in the foam.

Seemed fun , slippery , wet and sexy fun...till.....
THE MASSIVE DOSE OF FOAM came down from the roof like a huge waterfall.
It was PITCH WHITE in front of my eyes and I could barely breathe for sometime . The foam was thick and coming down heavily..
I think they should have some sign on the dancefloor in these types of parties saying " Danger area ...FOAMslides from TOP "..

Moving..

Having got wet from head to toe..I realised my new shoes and shirt have had their first and final night out!!! and it was bye bye to them..

Anyways it was a nice experience and the DJ was playing some cool old hindi remixes ( he was playing some HOLI style tracks ) ...

Went to for some early morning 4 am food bite at the roadside " dhaba" ( indian for roadside motel or eating joint). Had some egg paranthas ( thought they were heavenly).

Came home.. slept at 6am woke up at 2 in the afternoon ..!!!!

Dreamt of ...wot elzz.....FOAM BATH!!!!

SUNDAY >>
With half of the day gone sleeping..
Spent the other half doing the following :
1. Watching TV
-Cricket match ( India vs England at Lords )
-Superbikes racing
- Surfing Music channels
- Watching some News
2. Went to the market to do some shopping and sell my SONY T610 ( sold it for Rs 6500 ~ I bought it 10 months ago for Rs17500 !!! A loss of Rs 11000 in ten months. Thought to myself ..mobiles are pretty much becoming like paying Monthly rental for Rs1000 per month or so..come to think of it Airtel , Hutch and all these companies should start some schemes like these )
3. Went to a freinds place to meet him
4. Dinner with Family
5. Surfing and blogging in the night
